THANK YOU MR BLAIR
Ten years on from that incredible night of Labour's 1997 election victory, I was out on the street for the first time wearing my Labour rosette canvassing on the doorsteps of this fine country. I always come late to the party.
(I know someone in the Guardian picture by the way. She says "you can just about see my huge nose next to john, am wearing bright red, john is in blue suit and shirt")

Amen.
He's better than Chirac or Schroeder, I'll say that for him.
Yes, fine achievements indeed. Lets see now. Education (oh, dear, tuition fees). Never mind there's always health (NHS funding increases disappearing on salary increases without improving patient care). Well, not to worry, there's always public transport improvements. Yes I know there haven't been any, but public transport is still there, isn't it? God, what do you people want?
Look, there are other improvements you know. The gangland violence and deprivation is a culture thing, you know, not part of society in general. Yes I know there's widespread alienation amongst different groups here, but that's hardly the government's fault.
Hey now. Be fair. We've really got to grips with Irish terrorism. Okay, so we've replaced it with a more pernicious Islamic terrorism, but that's a success in kind. And foreign policy really has been top drawer, hasn't it? Oh, people, really, can we not get past Iraq? It is time to move on. And, no, I don't agree that trident is a huge waste of money in a globalised society with no discernible benefit to Britain. Plleeaassee!
Listen chaps, the thing is at least we are a democracy still. So celebrity and idiots dominate our culture, so what? They are people too. Don't they deserve to be heard? At least we haven't blocked the news about those council elections and some of the greatest abuses of electoral fraud in recent times. Anyhow, why vote when you can use your mobile to choose who to evict on Big Brother?
Really, you are being picky. It is the little people that we wanted to serve when we got elected. They matter. Well, what a surprise... I knew you'd take the view of that UN report. Oh come on, so the UK is the worst wealthy country in the world to grow up in? Makes 'em tough, I say, prepares 'em for the life ahead.
Look, can we just forget that statistic about the rich getting richer and the poor, well, you know? But, really, you do agree about us being a success, don't you?
(Yes, Tony, calm down, WE know what your true legacy is).
